CRITICS

Carmela Rizzuti was born in Palermo on October 10, 1974.

She studied art in Palermo, graduating from the Fine Arts Academy in 2001. She then moved to Florence to take a 3-year course in restoration of paintings on wood and canvas, specializing in the use of photography in the restoration process.

Carmela Rizzuti's photographs go beyond the visual and delve into reality, irrespective of whether they are purely aesthetic in nature or deal with social issues.

Her images are lovely and filled with hidden aspects and variation, and range from the warm, volumetric reds of her most recent works, to the expressive black of her early photos.

In painting Carmela is extremely meticulous and very tied to what is real. In photography, she likes to go beyond what can be seen and she loves to experiment. Her images capture reality while at the same time rendering it abstract.

In a later phase, Carmela once again turned to photography as a means of expression tied

to another field, this time restoration. According to Carmela, photography "is of fundamental importance in restoration. It allows me to identify conditions and structural levels in a work of art. With the camera and the aid of special lights, a number of problems that are hard to detect with the naked eye can be seen".
